Kedai Makanan Hong Seng is an unremarkable chinese old coffee shop by appearance, but has more than what one expected it to offer. Tucked in a corner in Seksyen 17, Petaling Jaya, it houses the infamous chicken and roast pork rice that garners long queues every day, the brisk business of Kee Mei siew pao stall and a better-than-average wanton noodles.
Two years ago, a Chinese lady started operating a pig stomach (or pig maw) noodle soup stall here. Initially, we passed by the stall without a second look until we noticed it dished out bowls and bowls of noodles and soup. Cholesterol? Pffttt.. We tried it anyway and boy.. We were delighted to find it to be very close to what my mum’s home cooked version.
The maw/stomach strips are thick, served in soup laden with vegetables and taofu pok. Its strong peppery taste is what makes their soup a notch better than other, which I suspect they are using both ground and coarse pepper, probably threw in some black pepper as well, like my mum did.
If you do not like noodles, you can order for the soup but they do not have rice. You might have to get it from the vegetarian economic rice there. Their Guo Tie (锅贴), or fried sui gao is another item worth mentioning here. They are juicy and best eaten hot before it loses it’s crispiness.
